All we know is that we know nothing

Virtual reality game installation, 2022
made by Unreal Engine

The designer designs the game to set the rules, resulting in a self-system and a closed worldview. Players play through various choices and interactions in this built virtual world. Through this work, I want to express and let the audience think about "choice" and become aware of the existence of the system we live in. How does the system work? What options does it offer us? As part of the system, we, through education, also implicitly follow the default "rules of the game" of this giant game, and together we construct the present social system.
A game is a small world where we are aware that we are entering a "game" and can log out at any time. When the "game" is more extensive, so large that we are generally unaware that we are in it, are our choices based on our "free will"? Are we aware of how the system works? Or is it the intention of the designer? Can we choose not to participate in this "game"?

The shelter for digital nomads

SecondLife game project, 2020
Second life ID: evanHHH

During this quarantine time, we may spend most of our day on the internet. We are sitting in front of the computer and slide our phone all day night. Go to the bathroom become an important physical activity to reconnect our relationship with reality. The first time I saw the Japanese bathroom, it gives me a sense of divinity. That reminds me of a confessional room. The reason might be that bathroom, and the confessional room has some common points: A small space, a light from the top, a private and safe world, someone sitting inside, people do lots of thinking and introspection there as well. So for all of the digital nomads and immigrants, I make the bathroom become a shelter and build it in Second Life and bind my avatar to the work so that I can take it everywhere I want. Any Second life player can enter this shelter as well.
